Srinagar, Mar 11 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday said that it has no proposal under consideration to provide cable car connectivity from Korakbal to Athwatoo in Gurez Valley, even as the area remains cut-off for about six months during winters due to heavy snowfall.
A query in this regard was raised by MLA Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi. The response by the Public Works (R&B) Department as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), admitted that the Gurez area remains isolated for many months due to heavy snowfall.
However, it stated that no proposal is currently under consideration for establishing a cable car service from Korakbal to Athwatoo to facilitate easier movement of people during the winter season.
“Yes, Sir. Gurez area remains cut-off during winters for many months due to heavy snowfall on Razdan Pass. However, there is no proposal under consideration for providing connectivity to Gurez Valley through a Cable Car from Korakbal to Athwatoo,” the reply reads.
It is noteworthy that, the Gurez Valley in Bandipora district of North Kashmir remains inaccessible for nearly six months every year, as Razdan Pass, the only road link to Gurez, remains closed due to heavy snowfall, with results in major hardships for residents—(KNO)
